Does my wood merchant selling me a different wood species?

Very prone to tear out! Found I had to use scrappers on final pass before light sanding. And the end grain does have large pours, which I’m not a huge fan of. Otherwise easy to work and finished well.

I am quite impressed. Very nice wood. When finished with a beeswax compound after sanding, while still warm, the color becomes rather dark.
